Van tries to start but won't start
Asked by Lisa52968 Sep 02, 2016 at 10:58 PM about the 1996 Plymouth Voyager Minivan
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
The van sounds like its honestly trying to
start but it doesn't. Not the battery or
cables, not the starter, doubt it's the
alternator but it's not getting spark. Where
should I start to trouble shoot and how do I
go about doing that...?

There are so many OTHER reasons a car won’t start. It could be a the main relay, no gas because of either no gas in the tank, or the fuel pump isn’t working properly, or it has a clogged fuel filter. It could be a bad spark plug, bad plug wire, or a combination of the two, carburetor choke, water in the distributor cap, bad points, bad injectors, accelerator pump, timing, broken timing belt, engine is flooded, a vacuum leak, or even a bad temperature sensor, or a combination of some or all of these. A blown head gasket will also prevent your car from starting if the engine is a four cylinder with two dead cylinders.
the skeleton anti theft program has caused lots of problems for that yr.need to have it scanned.ifthat's the cause need to replace PCM
Car started backfiring and just quit and want start
I HAVE A 1998 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER SE. IT WAS RUNNING GOOD YESTERDAY AND THIS MORNING MORNING I TRIED TO START MY VAN. AND IT WANTS TO START BUT THEN IT WONT KICK OVER TO START. BATTERY IS NEW PLUGS AND WIRES ARE NEW ALONG WITH MY SENSOR FOR THE WATER TIMING BELT IS NEW ALSO. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH ANY IDEAS. THANKS JOE SR.
Yes joe I had many problems with 1990 van I put a tune up on it but mainly I replaced throttle control sensor and it’s fine but I would change all sensors and relays too it’s all about $85 bucks for them , now you’ll see a very thin cable line going under the battery it’s plastic and in cold it will crack and that’s what my problem was so I got windshield wiper line and replaced where it was cracked so check all very thin lines gone across engine under battery , best of luck
