Engine will not idle down. Any suggestions.

Asked by E_150forlife Nov 06, 2011 at 10:06 AM about the 1993 Ford E-Series E-150 STD Econoline

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 93 ford cargo van started idling at about 2500 rpms and will not slow down after
using the cruise control. This has continued every time I start it up or drive it. It is
fine on the freeway but it is probably horrible for the breaks and transmission in city
traffic. Any quick fixes like an idle sensor or something easily replaced?

eather the throttle position sensor or the egr valve is bad or the cruise did not cut off.look in fuse box pull the cruise fuse see if it stops the high idle.

I recently got my van back from Ford with the problem resolved. It took 3 mechanic's to figure this one out after replacing several parts with no luck. It turned out that there was some blown gaskets in beween the upper and lower intake manifold that had to be replaced. I got the van back after 5 days and almost a $1,000 bill.
