My 1996 Ranger starts but I turn the key to the off position the engine keeps running. There is no resistance at all. I replaced the lock cylinder. No change. What else could it be?

My 1996 Ranger starts but I turn the key to the off position the engine keeps running. There is no resistance at all when I turn the key counter clockwise . I replaced the lock cylinder. No change. What else could it be?

The ignition is activated by way of a rod that gos down the steering column to a switch. That rod has come out of place or the switch is bad.

Buddy Lee is correct, the ignition switch (the electrical part) is bad or the actuator rod has come loose. My guess is that the switch is bad.

Yo...what up bro...did you ever get that problem fixed...?? Im guessing you did... Do you mind sharing some info on what the results were, and what the process was to fix it??? Im having the same issue where the truck turns on and wont shut off and i dont feel any resistance when i turn the key counter clockwise (off) i changed the ignition cylinder hoping that was the problem...but no luck... 96 ford ranger 2wd xl (no tilt wheel)
