can I lower the height of my van with different tires and wheels

Asked by Robert Apr 21, 2016 at 11:29 PM about the 2000 Ford E-Series E-250

Question type: Car Customization

OEM are LT225/75/16E tires--would like to lower the van 1'' or so and was wondering if I could do it with just tires and rims alone on my 2005 Ford E250 and still maintain handling and safe load capacity and sidewall handling

to do that the tire will have to be 2 inches lower...and the speed will readfaster than your going..

Look at some of the lowering kits. Probably cheaper, safer and not to hard to install. Google it.

I haven't looked around, but I don't see how it would cost more than $1000 to lower it an inch or two. Look some more.

the quote I got was from a spring and suspension company with a good reputation in the area--not sure where else to get a comparison--I want it done right..

I guess you live in an expensive place. I'm on the Gulf Coast and it would be about a grand here.

Minnesota--I will try and find other estimates--but not all places know what they are doing, and I don't want someone to mess up the geometry and end up with a van that eats tires and handles badly--I have a friend I will ask, as he is into custom trucks and cars--he may know someone who does it in a smaller garage, and maybe cheaper..

Yes, talk to your friend. If you were talking a Jag or Mercedes, I could see getting estimates in the $3k-$4k range but this is a Ford. Although heavier than a 150 it is not rocket science.

two 4'' lowered I-beams, with ball joints, are around 500.00 a piece--maybe different coils and shock mounts--rear end is leaf springs, so shackles and other components, not sure what all is involved..may find out more this afternoon, and I can give you an update..

yes I would like any possible answers from any of you . Thanks for being willing This vehicle is a Ford T 250 Transit Van
