Question type: General

I'm about to buy a used 1991 Ford E-350 cub van 460 v8 (7.7l) automatic.  I's not currently running.  Are quirks I should check as it has been sitting for about 2 years.  I know it needs a battery.  Thank for comment / experiences.

the 460 is a great workhorse. I currently own an '87 F-250 4x4 that has one and talk about a powerhouse! Quirks: Lots of 460 equipped vehicles get sold cheap because someone has overheated it and blown the Head Gaskets. Not catastrophic if you can do it yourself. $300 - $500. The Timing chain is the main failure around 100,000 miles. A compression check will tell you about the engine's condition. Another problem is the EGR Spacer plate between the Carburetor and the Intake MAnifold. They tend to warp and create a pretty bad vacuum leak. The Holley carburetor is another weak point. Often, the Metering Blocks get warped and it's almost impossible to get a decent A/F mixture.
