Why is my car telling me I have 3% oil life left after an oil change?

Asked by ricapl Dec 03, 2014 at 07:52 PM about the 2006 Pontiac G6 Base V6

Question type: General

I took my car in to have the oil changed at a repair shop 2 weeks ago and I am getting a
message in the message center that I only have 3% oil life left. Why is that? Is it
because the oil filter may not have been changed like they were suppose to or is there a
way to reset that message to get it back to where it should be?

They just didn't reset the oil change light. Not a big deal. You should actually go by the 3 months or 3000 mile rule anyways. Most places put a static sticker in the upper left corner of your windshield to let you know when to change it again. If I'm not mistaken the oil reset is in the factory radio. Turn the car to the on position don't start it. Press the info button on the left side of the radio. Just walk your way through it from there. Kind of easy to do.
