Installing a windshield wiper switch

If only the lever is broken on the actual switch, am i
able to just detach the lever/ connection box and
then purchase and install an exact duplicate
without having to take it to a repair shop?

Probably so. Most switches are replaceable. The trick is knowing how to disassemble the surrounding dash pieces to get to them. Ask for help from a parts store when you buy the switch. They may have some "help" documents.
