Transmission issues

Asked by Julia Mar 17, 2014 at 11:05 AM about the 2005 Pontiac Aztek STD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2005 Aztek Rally has been making a whining noise. Checks belts/fluids are all good (had to add power steering fluid). The whining is the loudest in park (but when I am stopped at a light, no noise). Took to a mechanic and he said the transmission pump is bad, transmission needs rebuilt at the tune of $1,200-1,500...A few weeks ago when I had my oil changed I was told I needed a transmission flush. Could the flush take care of the problem (it's $300 versus $1200+) or should I not even bother with it?

Yea..make sure whining sounds not coming from your power steering pump! Because Ive known a trans to whine that heavy.

I don't really have any problems with it shifting, except once in a blue moon it is a little tough to get it from park to reverse. But it doesn't happen a lot. My husband is going to have a friend of his that works on cars take a look at it/hook up to computer and see what he has to say about it to. I am REALLY hoping it's not a rebuild, or I am pretty much S.O.L.

Well if you do not transmission problems the whining noise is more than likely coming from your power steering pump and someone was trying to hit you up for $$$
