how do you leave door open to do paracitc draw test when there is no button to wedge shut

Asked by kirkdi Apr 02, 2015 at 07:59 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Montana Base Extended

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The other fuse block is located on the passenger side so door needs to be open. I did a
test with doors closed and it was 2.69 - 3.0 draw.

Why would you need the door open if you were just going to tape the button closed?

Pull the fuse for the doors. This will let the computer "go to sleep" while the doors are open so you can do your test. Otherwise you'll get a higher reading than you should. It takes about 10 min for the computer to go to sleep. (Obviously if the draw goes away after the door fuse is pulled then you found your problem.) Again, be sure to wait an appropriate amount of time.

Reelin, some doors don't have accessible buttons to push/tape closed, they're inside the door itself.

Right, but if the internal door switch was bad, wouldn't the dome light be on all of the time? When I open my doors the dome light comes on and the ignition light.
