2005 Pontiac Sunfire No Start

Asked by Matt Jan 07, 2015 at 07:32 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car has acted up a couple times in the past two years; either dying once after starting or
dying once in traffic.  Each time it fired up and was fine.  Went to go to work the other day
and it didn't start.  All dash lights come on at Run, then when in Start just the Check
Engine light is on when you hold it in Start.  No noise from anything.  I switched out the
crank relay and checked all the fuses in the panel and under the hood.  Pulled the starter
from under the car and had it tested.  Fine.  Put in new battery as old one didn't have
charge or would hold a charge.  Nothing.

It is an automatic transmission and the shifter seems weird: When I turn the key to Run
and leave it in Park, it would roll if I let it.  I'm pretty sure Park should be Park no matter
what is going on so I'm thinking it might be a transmission problem.  Unfortunately I can't
check if it has codes because I replaced the battery.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

my mechanic suggested it might be a bad wire from the ignition to the relay panel under the hood
