2021 Toyota Venza battery dead with less than 1,000 miles

If you are having this issue with your Venza - ask your Toyota Dealer about Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) T-SB--0095-20 Revision 1 (updated December 2020) and request they conduct the DCM Firmware Update. This is a known issue - 12v battery depleting while ignition is off. Several other Toyota vehicles are having this issue (see below). Mine was a 2021 Venza XLE which went dead after 685 miles. There was a parasitic draw on these Toyota Models that would go away when the DCM fuse was pulled. I’m having the same issue in my 2021 limited Venza. Currently waiting for it to be picked up and taken to the closest Toyota dealership.

Sorry to hear that Ckf0429. Let me know how it turns out. I have not had any problems since my initial indicident - but I am going to aks for the firmware update when I go in for maintenance. I just past 1,000 miles, not driving as much as I am still working from home. I don't want to park it at the airport and have to worr about this issue when things start getting back to normal

That firmware update is going to take four hours according to toyota dealer. So be planned.

I had this issue as well.The dealership was not aware this issue impacted the Venza. They told me I probably left the lights on. Once I had them research them about this, they did the upgrade. Thank You!!

My 2021 Venza Limited is totally dead. Time to bring it to the dealer.

Same thing happened to us yesterday with our 2021 Venza. Will keep the long story short but all the posted info went with the car ( it of course, dead, had to be towed). Dealership is going to actively pursue this issue based on all the good info we sent them. Thank you all.

Same problem. Car is 4 months old with less that 3000 miles. Battery died just like that.

Update to my post: 2021 Venza XLE which died at 685 miles in Jan 2021. I ended up delaying getting the DCM update -figured I would just either have it towed in next time it happened, or wait until the first Toyota Care visit since I was not driving it much. 12/4/21 - I just had Toyota Care 5K service done at 3,100 miles - no issues with non- starting since original incident, but did request they do the DCM update. Dealer had to request approval from Toyota. There were some issues car's computer to talk to the technician.s, but finally worked and everything is updated.

My 2021 Toyota Venza has been jumped 4 times. Currently it's waiting for me to pick it up from the dealer. It has had a firmware upgrade twice and every time I'm told I'm not driving it enough. So originally they told me to drive it a half hour at least once a week. I did that and it still died. 2 firmware upgrades later and being driven at least weekly it died again. The third time it died they told me to drive it twice a week at least 20 min each time and I complied with the recommendation. A month later the car died again on the 4th day. Interestingly this what national recommended from https://www.toyota.com/support/: Do I have to take special steps to protect the battery of my hybrid vehicle if I plan to store the vehicle for an extended period? In addition to the storage tips for our conventionally-powered vehicles, our hybrids require additional steps for each battery, as the hybrid vehicle battery and auxiliary battery will discharge and their condition is liable to decline. To prevent excessive auxiliary battery drainage, charge the battery at least once every two weeks by powering on the hybrid system for 20 minutes with all non-essential electrical accessories (such as air conditioning and audio equipment) turned off. It is not necessary to drive the vehicle, but do not start the hybrid system in an enclosed area unless the tail pipe is connected to an exhaust hose to prevent harmful buildup of fumes. As an alternative, you may disconnect the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery. For the hybrid vehicle battery, charge the battery at least once every two months by starting the hybrid system for about 30 minutes*. Check that the "ready" light is on and all lights and electrical accessories are off. As with the auxiliary battery charging, it is not necessary to drive the vehicle, but the steps to prevent exhaust buildup must be taken. Based on the above I was driving the car more than the minimum even the first time. It's shameful that that Toyota puts the blame on the driver's driving habits because they can't figure out what's going on. Guidance to me on the amount of driving I had to do was unfounded and wasn't even necessary because the car just needed to be turned on. The first person that helped me from national was the one who gave me this guidance. A case manager was assigned and 5 days later not a single phone call. Right now they are just charging the battery - not even replaced. We'll see. I will test this based on the 2 week minimum guidance they published. They can't even begin to compensate me for the hassle, time and missed medical appointments. Toyota has disappointed me after being a loyal customer for decades!

I have owned the hybrid Venza for 18 months/35000 miles. The battery has died 3x. I had the firmware update 2 months ago. Battery died again last week. Its currently at the dealer again.

Unbelievable. My Venza is dormant now and had to be towed. Left dealership with new battery and towed 30 minutes later..
