Oil gage is not woking correctly. Sometimes indicator moves way right, and sometimes stays left, and moves only a short way out of the red zone. Sometimes it right in the middle koi the gage

Do the connecting wires get old and need cleaning?

Not likely it is a wiring issue. More likely it is the sending unit that tells the gauge what to read.
