What does 1 with an arrow pointing to 4 mean on the gauge panel of my 2004 pontiac gto?

I'm assuming you have a 6 speed manual. That means the 1-4 Skip shift. If you take off light throttle from a light...it forces you to shift into 4th gear. You can by pass it by taking off fast or buying the skip shift eliminator
