2002 Aztek. Battery goes dead, warning light is on. Jump start and car runs fine, until I disconnect positive battery terminal, engine dies immediately. Alternator?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery light came on and stayed on.  Battery went dead.  I jump started and
engine started right up.  Continued running after I removed jumper cables,
however; when I disconnected positive battery cable, engine died immediately.
Sounds like alternator to me as this is the second battery to die like this.

Most likely. BAT light comes on when your electrical system is discharging indicating your alternator is not producing current to the battery (or any other device). The car keeps running on stored battery power until the battery power is exhausted. Nothing is wrong with the car, it just can't keep running from a depleted battery. Change the alternator.
