My car won't start. It seemed like a bad battery so I changed it, drove, parked for a few hours, same thing.
When I try to start it, nothing. No
electrical/lights at all, not trying to
turn over. My key also wouldn't come
out, I had to use the release under
the steering column. It's a 2002
Aztek AWD. I can charge the battery
and get it going, then it runs just fine,
but as soon as I turn it off it's the
same problem. Any ideas?
It sounds like a bad battery and/or an alternator.
The key not coming out is because it has an electronic key release. So if the battery is dead it can't let go of the key. Check the connections at the battery and make sure they are clean and tight.
I put a brand new battery in and it worked initially, but as soon as I turned it off, same thing.
Sounds like a loose or corroded wire then. Possibly a bad ground wire, again loose or corroded. Are the connections at the battery, under hood fuse box and starter clean and tight?
It could be the alternator. If everything is clean and tight then have the alternator output checked.

Ours is doing the same. 01, drove home fine but security light was on. Got home, shut it off and came back later to leave and wouldn't start. Won't start for a month now. Key in, try to start it, dash lights flicker, then go right out, and red battery light comes on. Brand new battery, new alternator, new wires, checked ground, etc. Nada.
How did yu fix that problem
I slammed on my brakes HARD to avoid hitting someone that ran in front of me as soon as I started to go again so the lights in my dash went out I had someone come jump me after I wiggled and moved around all the cables checking them the car jumped give but every time I take the cables off it does so I stayed in the car had someone else take them off, keeping my foot on the gas I kept it going for shit 3 minutes then it died again any ideas?
