2002 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sunfire  has really been acting up. It is hard to start sometimes and it started to chug as if it is running out of gas when it idles and sometimes when it is driving. We just replaced the spark plugs and there was no difference. It actually died last week, it is an automatic and it was not switching gears the RPMs were really high. After that the power went i had no signal lights no lights nothing but the car was still running. we had it towed home checked the alternator, put in a new battery and it ran but that night it happened all over again. Any suggestions on what could be wrong??

I did some work on a sunfire, i don't recall what year, I ended up having to drop the gas tank to change strainer-filter, The shape of it was like a banana and every time it hit around a 1/4 tank it was unable to get fuel as the bottom part of filter was completely plugged,. the very top 1/3 of the stainer was not plugged though.
