Low Oil Pressure light

Asked by Jimmychem Jul 20, 2014 at 08:41 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Aztek STD AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The low oil pressure light is on, but the oil level is normal (full) and has not dropped during
the few days that this light has been on. I assume its the oil pressure sensor/switch, but I
have no idea where that is on the engine. Please advise.

Oil level is independent of oil pressure. (Although low oil will cause a drop in pressure if air is getting to the pump instead of oil). The pressure switch is on the filter mount, but before changing the switch you might want to have the pressure checked with an actual pressure gauge.

If u go under the car by the oil flite look up and to ur left u will see a wire attached to the sensor on the left side of engine half way up the is the oil pressure switch u will need the special socket to take off do not over tighten sometime they comw loose and need so teflon tape put on the and reinstall it
