TORQUE CONVERTER

A FRIEND OF MINE HOOKED HIS HAND HELD DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE TO MY 2001 BONNEVILLE.  IT GAVE A CODE OF 0741 TORQUE CONVERTER.  CAN ANYONE HELP ME.  WHEN I FIRST START MY CAR IT MAKES A LOUD RATTLING SOUND.  AFTER IT WARMS UP THE NOISE DISAPPEARS.  PLEASE HELP....ANYONE.  I AM POOR AND CANNOT AFFORD EXPENSIVE REPAIRS.

This code is telling you that there is a problem with the torque converter clutch lock-up solenoid. Actually, not a terrible repair -- part for my '89 Century cost only $40 at the dealership, and I did the labor myself in about two hours. However, that's probably not related to your rattling sounds. The TCC clutch is more related to shift quality. The rattling may be from an exhaust leak, low oil pressure at start-up, or a bottom end bearing knock. Have this diagnosed separately, this will take a good mechanic, as there are no codes for this kind of thing.

As already stated need a little more to go on. If torque converter nuts have loosened up may give a rattle and or baffle in exhaust system
