2001 Sunfire Transmission Leaking

Asked by Perception1 May 28, 2011 at 10:11 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Sunfire SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys.

So I ended up buying my first car this week, all seems to be great except one thing
-which happens to be that there is a leak under the front of the car.

It's a 2001 Sunfire Coupe SE with the 2.2L engine.

A friend of mine checked it out and said that since the fluid is a reddish color and
my antifreeze is no where near where it's leaking from then it's the transmission.
He's not a mechanic but happens to know a good amount about cars.

Based on what he told me, I came home and googled quite a bit to see costs
related to a transmission leak but none that are really Sunfire specific so I decided
to come here.

My question is -Is it possible to give me an idea of the cost of a repair like this?

And just for your information the car runs perfectly, no problems shifting, no
transmission slips, the transmission itself seems to be fine. It has 125, 000 Km on
it (75-80,000 Miles), no rust, everything seems great except for this one problem.

Tried to give you as much info as I could being new to the car world and all. All
input is welcomed, thanks in advance.

It might just be the transmission pan gasket, can you tell were its leaking from?

Hi, I'm having the same problem with my car and was just wondering if you ever found out what the problem was?

Yeah it was the transmission lines that ran from the radiator, there was a split in the line. All they had to do was replace the line. I think it ended up being 180$ to fix.
