engine light comes on periodically and the gas gauge was acting up. now the dash lites quit working and yesterday it turned over but would not start I got it started and it went for about 40 miles and died it won't fire and the windows will not go down I have a full tank of gas. Any ideas?

This could well be an electrical problem, with the vehicle shutting off unnecessary functions like dash lights and windows in an attempt to redirect alternator output to keeping the vehicle alive. It sounds like it could also be a PCM or BCM problem. Without knowing what codes the Engine light was indicating it will be hard to diagnose this. Suggest taking it to a mechanic who can run an OBD-II diagnostic on it to tell you more.
