Im found an automatic Pontiac sunfire 1999 convertible online and I am considering buying it.

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

It would be my first car, I am a young
student that needs a car for work and
school. It has 240000 km but the owner
said it is restored on many levels like
brakes, water pump, engine. I live in Canada
so there is a lot of snow in the winter. I was
wondering if it a good car overall even if its
kind of old. Also, is it cold in a convertible
during the winter? Would it be a good car
for a small roadtrip with friends? Is it worth
2750$?

When I met my wife, she owned the turbo version of your car but not the convertible. When we traded it in for a new car in 2008, the best trade-in value we could get for it was $1,250.00 usd with a retail value of $1,600.00. The body was fine, but it had 142,000 miles on it, which seriously affected the value. As a 16 year old car now, at 2750 usd, I would avoid purchasing and find another vehicle. If you insist on buying it, make sure your small, friend-filled road trip extends no further than the neighborhood grocery store. You didn't say who performed the repairs or whether they are warranted or how long the warranty lasts, but my rule of thumb is that any repairs are only as good as your knowledge and trust in whoever performed them. Hope this information was useful.

Although 240000km = 149129mi, the price is still well above a reasonable value. Also, the mention of snow/road salt in Canada over sixteen years, rust would be a concern. I agree that this car should be bypassed.
