How can I get my 4-speed transmission to correctly go into OD again?

Asked by steveformula Nov 23, 2015 at 12:28 AM about the 1996 Pontiac Firebird Formula

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1996 Formula T/A with a 5.7L engine and a 4-speed trans. It had a 3.23 limited slip differntial. It started really 'howling' at freeway speeds. I had it replaced with a 3.73 Auburn posi-trac. Now of course the speedometer is off. But worse, the transmission does not seem to shift into OD anymore.
What can I do to remedy this ?

If you only have 4 speeds that is all you have but I thought your car should have a 5 or 6 speed. To fix the speedometer you have to change the speedometer gear at the transmission to one for a 3.73 final drive ratio.
