Can I use a different coolant in my Firebird?

Asked by Norri171 Feb 06, 2015 at 01:55 AM about the 1991 Pontiac Firebird Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1991 Pontiac Firebird 305
5.0L. Now I came to buy this car in
bad condition and I am slowly
rebirthing her into a performance era.
I run green coolant/antifreeze in her
system right now. HOWEVER I do
know there are other types and that I
should never mix them but I am
doing a flush soon so if anyone couls
give me insight on what different
coolants do and what they will do for
my engine in general thatd be great!

Hi I know Dexcool is what came with your car from the factory pretty sure. I would just use that again unless you can find out somewhere on the net that someone says you might have a problem in doing so? Its true if you don't do a flush on the entire system & the 2 coolants mix it could be a real problem if that happens! Its up to you? Hope I hellped?
