Motor issue

Asked by Firebird90 Apr 25, 2014 at 11:56 PM about the 1990 Pontiac Firebird Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I am at a red the motor sounds like it wants to die, then the car wants to move
when you have your foot on the break. Then it wants to die, but once you get going, the
car will not act up. Anyone knows why?

Sounds like a dirty/faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle plate. Could also be the throttle position sensor going bad.

Also it may be time to change fuel filters and check the sparkplug wires for burns(arc spots) or cuts
