Looking at 2004 911 4S that doe not have a clean CARFAX.

Just remember this car will forever have a "salvage" title and would be hard to resell. However if you plan on buying it and keeping it forever you should be able to get a good deal. I would say at least 30% below book value.

Hitting a garage door or chain link fence is not serious enough to total any car, I would think. The insurance co (as usual) bailed on this customer. With a new IMS bearing and clutch, if it were my car, I'd keep it and fight the insurance co. Sounds like the original owner took care of the car. If you can get it for a good price, go for it, after having it inspected on a lift at a good Porsche shop. In spite of having a salvage title, these are great cars, especially if you plan to hang onto it. Good Luck!

The 2007 Jaguar Vanden Plas I brought was totaled by the insurance company just from hitting a Deer. Left front quarter panel damage. I'm not sure if the air bag was deployed, but it was quite surprising that it would be salvaged with that little damage. I was able to buy this 3yr. old car 42,000 miles at just less than 1/3 the original sticker price & it has been a great car for me the past 3 1/2 years with no problems at all. At the time it was about $7,000.00 less than the book value.

A clean carfax means nothing. My wife backed our 2012 Focus into a pick-up truck and ruined the trunk lid. Got it fixed, but because it went thru my insurance company, the info ends up at carfax and the report is not "clean". As long as the insurance companies are involved, the consumer gets screwed one way or another. Is every body panel on the Porsche damaged? 25 thousand (ins co estimate) damage is probably only $10,000 or probably less at a good body shop that picks up used Porsche parts. The insurance company does this to get out of paying repairs, by claiming your car is totaled. It's a huge rip-off and most of us know it.

10k as is, seems reasonable for such a desirable car. Even at 19K, it seems a reasonable price. If after inspection, no frame damage is found, find a good specialty Porsche race shop that builds race cars. You'll be amazed at what they can do for a car that needs body work, as they are always fixing track damaged cars, and lots cheaper than any dealer. And because you'll be carrying a salvage title from here on in, you'll have a little negotiating room. Good luck.
