An inexpensive OBDII code reader can reset the codes and turn off the check engine light however, the light will re-illuminate once the ECM completes a full diagnostic cycle. If you are wanting the light to turn off to pass emissions/inspections, this will not work. The OBDII system (that EVERY car has) takes a snapshot of the cars information before the code clear/reset. Anyone doing the emissions/inspection will notice this right away and the car will not pass. If you are wanting to clear it so you can sell the automobile, again it will illuminate again after a full diagnostic cycle completes (usually 25-50 starts). The latter is not only unethical, but also just plain nasty. If you are intending to sell the vehicle you should disclose all issues with the vehicle. You know what they say... "what goes around, comes around". Best of luck!

As sixfootsix guy says, you can clear the code, but it is likely to come back. You need to fix the issue that caused the code in the first place.
