My 996 has a weak and dying battery. I've heard I can't simply pull it out and stick the new one in because there's an issue of losing codes; radio and possibly security/starting. Is that true or may I simply swap it out for a new one? Thanks

thanks. I actually purchased one of them, but it doesn't fit in the lighter outlet. Outlet is too large so the device doesn't make a connection I trust. Knowing nothing, i plug this gizmo into the lighter (with a 9v battery on it) if it does make a tight fit/good connection, it stores the codes while i've got the old one out? I simply connect new battery and codes are in place? last idiot question: there are the 2 posts + - and there's a 'vent' or breather tube in the middle. does that simply pull off and push on? Sooner or later during ownership, you will need your codes. Yes, unhooking the battery will require, radio and or sat nav code. - a mechanic may remove battery terminal - Batteries have been known to fail completely. Leaving you in same position. Always remove Negative battery terminal first.. Replace Neg. first.
