Porsche 911 X50
I am considering buying a 2001 nz new porsche 911 turbo x50, its clocked up
just over 100,000kms . manual. i would like to know what the upside is to
owning the x50 and if there is a downside.. more horsepower but does that
come with a negative. what are these cars worth. and are they more
collectable worth more in the long run than a standard 996 911 turbo
I owned a 2003 X50. The bigger turbos have a bit more lag at low rpm on the street than the std ones but they create more power and breath better at the top end. Depends on how you intend to drive it whether that is a down side or up side. The intercoolers are bigger which means it will run cooler and you can tune it for higher HP without replacing them. Make sure you check second gear for dreaded pop out on deceleration. Would mean a costly rebuild. Excellent car, good luck.
I have an 02 X50 for 3 years now. X50 is 50 more option than the standard 911 turbo. This could be full leather to seat backs. You can look up the options form the sticker under the trunk lid. X50 has the same turbo's and engine that a GT2 does. My insurance company has my car model number as 911CRTB GT2. Same engine, same body, much different suspension. However, the X50 is AWD. GT2 is rear wheel drive. And, most have been in accidents. The X50 can easily be tuned. Add a custom muffler, Air Intake, with a tune to optimize. The X50 will go from 455 crank to 700. Which is about 600 to the ground. The GT2, GT3 and X50 use the 964 engine for the bottom end. This is a race proven motor. I race the 964 motor NA in a 1980 911 and won 9 regional championships total from 3-different race clubs. 250 thousand street miles will probably begin breaking the engine in, so to speak. Solid car. If you run 600 HP, you will want to upgrade the brakes from 4 piston to 6 piston. And, the suspension with coil overs. Then you will have a solid, well-sorted car to enjoy for many, many miles. The X50 will always bring a higher price than the stock turbo. I see them on ebay for 52K to 56K.
Thankyou, i have been reading through the service history, it was well serviced except for one owner over 40,000kms who had it serviced by private non porsche workshop. it has had the 1st gear syncro replaced and had new gear cables. also had new crank seal and serpintine belt. are you giving me a usa price at 52-56k
Yes... USD on ebay. A Dyno test is an excellent way to see the car's performance. Nothing hides on a Dyno. For example.. how can a human judge HP during a test drive? If the car should be putting out 455 and is only producing 403 HP, it would be difficult to know. If such were to exist, the dyno results would help pin-point a problem such as vacuum leak. Speaking of which, has the F hose and vacuum hoses been replaced?
