Tom is correct, the air-cooled cars can be a bit of a headache, but they are doable. Just remember new crush washers on the drain plugs, and smear some oil on the mating surface of the oil filter, and you should be okay.

When refilling your oil tank, keep in mind on the 993 cars, it's forward of the RR Wheel. The small diameter oil fill tube runs horizontal about a foot or more, before entering the top of the tank. It is very easy to just dump the quart in the tube, but then the oil air locks, and begins dumping all over your engine tin, and down to the heater boxes.....SO....pour each quart very slowly. It will take more time than you expect....But slow is the way!

I bight the bullet and let them charge me $250 sucks but to me after doing it on my own worth it. A turbo engine on my 2012 is much more money.

If memory serves me, the 993 has 2 oil filters, one up high just forward of the engine on the passenger side, and another just forward of the RR wheel under the fender trim. The one near the wheel is easy after removing or pulling the trim aside. The engine one is tough, I had to grind down a steel strap wrench to to get room to turn the filter using a long 3/8" extension bar. Save that wrench! Porsche is ripping you off big time, by charging that price.

It is not a complex job. Just warm the engine before you start and follow the Pelican Parts procedure posted by Tom. I change my own engine, gearbox and diff oils in both my 911 and Cayenne Turbo - quite a straightforward job.
