Rear Wheel Bearings ... Lexus ES-300, year 2001
Asked by texasbobby Apr 03, 2012 at 04:10 PM about the 2001 Lexus ES 300 FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a road noise and a local shop said I had to replace the whole wheel, that the bearings couldn't be "fixed". Price quoted was 600.00. I found "right rear wheel assemblies" online new starting around 40.00 depending on the manufacturer. Can I just buy one of these and have a shop install it? Or should I buy a used one from a junker? 600 bucks seems really high when it looks like I can buy one really cheap. Thanks for any input.

I would not go with a junker bearing. The age of sitting and other factors may not work in your favor. You can have a shop install a part that you buy, but make sure you are buying the proper part. If it is a right rear wheel bearing, that is all you should have to buy. Yours is the bolt in type in the rear. Most of the price is labor, alldata says it pays 2.4 hours at shop rate. Thats what we get at our lexus dealer for labor.
I went to shop today and guess everybody how much they charge me for replacing front wheel bearing in my is 300.so price is 475 $.its labor and parts and inspection included in this price .Dont you think people it is too much?
I am curious how much lexus dealership service would charge?
We get 3 hours for labor because its a press in bearing so the whole knuckle must come off the car plus the wheel bearing. I would say 410-450 bucks

This was an old question, and I had it fixed two days after I posted this. I ordered the part online and paid a shop 90 bucks to put it in, so it ended up costing me 130.00 ... WAY less than the 600 I was being quoted by the Lexus place. I just looked at the date I posted that question, over a year and a half ago, and it's still working fine.
Iso my neighbour shop is charging more than lexus service.thats last time I am puting my car in his shop ...
They charged only 90$ for replacing bearng that v.good price.i dont get it why my f... neighbour is overcharging me.
