tire pressure warning light illuminated

Asked by juve Dec 28, 2009 at 09:11 AM about the 2007 Lexus ES 350 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2007 ES 350.  After checking the tire pressure, I found all four were at 40psi. The door info sticker calls for 30psi.  I usually run 32 psi in my tires.  I decreased the tire pressures to 32psi, and now the tire pressure warning light is illuminated constantly.

reset the tire light refer to owners manual. when set it will monitor that specific value. The car still thinks its monitoring a pressure around 40

toyota vehicles are sensitive when it comes to tpms sensors in order for the light to stay off after resetting the system you must put air pressure at 30 psi and drive the vehicle up to 30mph

Sounds like the thresholds that the light will come on at is set too high. Did you check the spare? because they also have sensors in the full size spare. To set the proper threshold, it is not dependant on speed or anything else. it is a direct monitoring system. Set all 5 tires to 30 psi. By the drivers feet there will be a small tire indicator reset button. Turn the car to accessory without starting it, hold that button until the tire light on the dash blinks 3 times and stops. That will set the threshold 80% of 30psi so roughly at 24 psi the light will come on. then simply set the tire pressure to what you want.

I have a 2012 Lexus ES 350. My tire light was on when one or more of my tires were at 30 or a little below. Drive to local dealer and they set all 5 tires for me at 35. Tire light was off and I am good to go. In the future, I would set it at 32 to 35 to keep the tire light off!

There is a small little button under the dash just under the ignition button. Press it once and drive a few miles and that should reset your TPMS light. If that doesn't work, have your TPMS valve stems checked (I do mine at Costco for free and they have the best prices for replacement TPMS). The battery in the TPMS usually lasts a minimum of 4-5 years and yours may have died.

The TPMS monitors a full size spare as well. If you have a full size spare, check the pressure on that tire as well! It's in the owners manual page 347.

If it's below freezing air pressure naturally drops a bit, this is fine. It happened to every car on the planet.

There is a button under the dash on the 2011 and it has push button start. It’s directly under the steering column, easy to find.

Spare tire is a full size spare and YES it has a sensor. I had the TPS light come on in my 2007 RX400 and I found out one sensor was bad. I bought a new one online and had tire shop replace it. It took me a long time to figure out how to get the dash warning light to go off. Here is what I did that worked: Don't worry about the TPS button under the steering wheel- this does not reset the light. What it does do is set the baseline pressure that would trigger the lights. For example, in my vehicle, the tire placard says 30 psi. If all tires, including spare are at 30 psi when you push this button, then the TPS sensor light will trigger at 25 psi. You will need a tire shop as you need scanner and OBD II to upload id's. 1. Fix TPS above if necessary. You skip this step and leave it to factory settings otherwise. If you are changing tires (ex. snow tires or a different size), then this step is needed. 2. Scan all tires in order LF, RF, RR, LR, and spare 3 Turn key to ON position. Use OBD II to upload tire sensor ID's into computer. 4. Rescan all tire sensors with scan tool (This step may be unnecessary but after all the attempts to solve this issue, I do it just in case.) 5. VERY important final step is to use the OBD II tool to enter the Tire pressure sensor settings mode and CLEAR WARNING CODES 6. If successful, you should be able to turn key to OFF then start car and the lights are off. You don't even need to drive it for lights to go off. 7. I now inflate my tires to 36-38 PSI.
