Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2007 Lexus ES 350 with severely cracked dash that Lexus will not honor
fixing. Do you know how much a Lexus dealership would charge me to replace.
The car is in great shape!  THX!

About 3 1/2 years ago I bought a used, one owner, 2007 Lexus ES 350 from a Lexus dealer. Shortly after I took it home I noticed the dashboard was sticky. Called the salesman, he told me to bring the car in. I did. The dealer dyed the dash the original (same) color. It looked good, it felt good. But I had a feeling it was just a temporary fix. Surprise!...About 3 months later the salesman called me to tell me that Toyota agreed to replace the dashboards on several Toyota models and some Lexus models (2007 ES350) as well. Free, no charge. It was not a formal recall. Dealers were notified, not vehicle owners. It was considered a "technical bulletin", or something like that. The salesman told me to call the service department. I did. They asked for information about my car (year make model) and VIN. They said they would call me when the color matched dashboard for my car came into stock. Few weeks later service called me, bring the care in. I did. I waited a few hours and drove home with a brand new dashboard, and it didn't cost me a dime. AND...they filled my tank up with gas. Call your local Lexus dealer!! Tell the dealer you want a new dashboard!!......Good luck!

I have a 2007 ES 350 which I bought new from Lexus of Austin. This year I noticed the dashboard degrading and getting sticky. I called my dealer and apparently the Lexus customer support program to replace the melting dash expired in 2017. I never received a notice that is was covered and the dash didn't start degrading until this year. My local dealer and Lexus of America will not offer support now that the program has expired. Not happy! Just wondering what it is going to cost me.

I BET you're not happy. It's a beautiful car. Mine is absolute mint, in and out. As pretty as a new one. If I had one of those bad dashboards, I wouldn't feel the same about my car. Use a sun shade when your car is not being driven. Keeping the sun off helps greatly. As far as replacing the dashboard, I don't know what the cost would be. Check with Lexus service dept. A lot of the cost is labor. I do know mine took just a couple/few hours to replace. So labor cost is not that great. There may be less expensive after market non OEM dashboards out there somewhere, look into it. Also, there are custom made dash "covers". Maybe not the most favorable option, but a lot better than a gooey dashboard. My care is mint, almost 100,000 MI. Don't do much driving myself. I intend to keep it another 3 or 4 years. All that considered, I would pay to have my dashboard replaced. But....that's me. Good luck to you!

I also have the same problem with my 2008 ES 350, melting, sticky, toxic fume and glare that makes driving very dangerous that I am afraid it might cause fatal accident in California Sun. For last 3 years, I have taken my car to South Bay and Santa Monica Lexus Dealer and Service Department. They have shown no interest in replacing it free of charge. Santa Monica Lexus Service Department has provided me with a cost estimate of $2033.70 for parts and hand written Labor charge of $1912 on the back of the statement Quote. Since 2018, I have contacted the US Lexus Head Quarter many many times via phone and written letter but non had been responded. First phone, I spoke to someone in their Head Quarter and he claimed they had no such issue reported on their vehicle and they are not responsible for any damage I have caused. My take from that phone call was that US Lexus Company/Corporation is blaming customers for their substandard and defective cars and parts. I would never recommend anyone buying a Lexus as they are dishonest and their vehicles are defective in every imaginable way. In my next post, after completion of my research and short survey with Lexus Owners. I will write on all the substandard and defective parts of Lexus cars from Dash Pad, Plastic Windows Clips, etc. I have many pictures and videos that I will share online that Every current and future Lexus Owners can look at and decide if they would buy Lexus as their next car. Good luck, John
