Saturn Ion 2004 Trunk Locked (Switch on inside)

Asked by metalmarquis Jul 28, 2017 at 05:18 PM about the 2004 Saturn ION 2

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've tried using the button to release the trunk, and about a year ago I got new
keys after a recall, now the key doesn't work in the trunk!  There is no release
around the back seat, and I remember there being a switch on the inside that
would lock the trunk unless you had the key.  Problem is the key doesn't work
either now!  Is there a way to get into the trunk by tricking the car somehow?

assuming you got the right key spray some WD40 in the lock let it sit overnight, spray a bit more and try to turn it , gently back an forth

If you have not gotten this problem fixed I had the same issue except my key just didn't work when I bought it and my kids moves yhe switch to only be able to unlock with key. If you pull your back seats apart as far as out can and stick a borrm handle or something through the center crack have someone pull the seat out as far as you can there are releases in the truck for the back seats to fold down. Push the opposite one from the seat you are pulling on with your object you are using. Push the end of it towards the back of the trunk once seat comes down pull safety trunk release found on the trunk door. Then move your switch back over. I have had to do this several times

Don't use WD-40. You want some thing like a graphite spray that won't collect dust... WD40 will and then eventually clog the lock cylinder
