Asked by Gary May 08, 2015 at 11:55 AM about the 2004 Saturn VUE Base AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The 2.2L Vue CVT shifts better into drive when the Car is freshly started. It will not hold
on a hill after warming up. The rest of the gears engage just fine. Sometimes shifting
into dry it will lag until I press on the accelerator and that causes it to jerk into gear.
It has over 140.000 miles. I do not know what the previous owner might  have done, all I
know it was very clean all over and underneath. It's been a great car until recently.
Thanks for any help...Gary

A CVT trans has no "gears" and if you want to, you can research it a little bit- bottom line, any car with CVT has a limited life- just get rid of it, go back to a conventional car, and chalk it up to experience- live and learn-

Yes I figured it was something serious, like a worn out transmission, but had hopes since all the other gears (yes I know they are not gears in the traditional sense, it' just old speak) that there might be something electric or a filter problem...or something that I could afford. Well thank you both for your input.

I'm also having problems actually I was told they ran their coarse at this point.
