Removed altornator on 04 saturn vue now it wont go back in

Removed alternator on 04 saturn cue to change
another part now the alternator will not go back in
it keeps hiring the block or not lining up any help
would be great

Problem found the a.c. compressor we changed is smaller than the old one causing the alternator to not line up as the two connect.
