new throttle body on 2002 Saturn Vue has to have relearn adjustment every 3 months

Asked by WilliWrites May 12, 2016 at 02:22 PM about the 2002 Saturn VUE V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Mechanic installed a remanufactured throttle body on my 2002 Saturn Vue about 6 months ago. It failed. New one installed and twice since then it will malfunction and have to have a "relearn" adjustment. I had a fuel induction service last year before the throttle body was replaced. Why is a new throttle body malfunctioning every few months? He also fixed a loose ground wire to the evap system and did a tune up & replaced an ignition coil. Saturn runs beautifully except for the relearn episodes.

There must be some other malfunction that is causing the throttle body to malfunction. Could be the eletronic circuit running to it is burning it out from too much current going to the device or something along those lines. Maybe a computer issue?

Hoping it's not the ECM. Car idle will suddenly surge one time then return to normal. About an hour later the Service Engine light goes on. Did it today but car did not hesitate at low speed as it did 2 weeks ago; ran just fine. Mechanic will put it on scanner again and maybe "dig a little deeper" to find issue. If it's the ECM, the Vue will be gone. I'm not spending any more money on it. it's a lemon - I've had to replace the oil sending unit, catalytic converter, 3 wheel bearings, evap vent, ignition coil and the center drive shaft had to be removed. The transmission had checked out fine. I drove a 1995 Mazda 626 for 267,000 miles with few problems. No more GM cars!

My Vue sucks ass. But I just found out about the relearn procedure after cleaning the throttle body then car going into reduced power mode. then purchased a used throttle body and it did the same thing. I'm praying this relearn will fix it. Pray for me lol

A GM Dealership mechanic informed me that with a 2003 Saturn Vue is a specific model does not need relearns after replacing sensors and throttle body.
