Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Started my car this morning and heard a loud wine coming from under the hood. when my
foot was on the gas it got louder. by the time i got to work the noise went away.
2005 scion tc with 87k miles.
Could it be low on power steering fluid?
Could it be an alternator? i dont know how to tell

Whine. Anyway it does point to power steering from what you describe. Check the fluid, and belt tension while you are there. If the belt has lost tension, the load on the alternator after starting can cause a screech or something similar, but low power steering fluid is a distinctive whine/growl sound

Yes DavidH25 called it.Start your vehicle get out open hood, and try to pinpoint where noise is coming from, paying attention too your belts.A loose belt will make noise,If you are low on power steering fluid it will also make noise.Should be an easy fix.GOOD LUCK!!!
