What motors will go into a 2005 Impreza?

How many miles are on your 2005 and why does it need a complete replacement, fire? In other words, can't it just be repaired or rebuilt?

I don't think the motors are different from here to Canada, but the mechanic I took the car to said they were. He asked me why I had an Ontario plate and wasn't to happy after that. My moms from Canada, Dads from Texas I have lived in one country just as long as the other, but schools much cheaper North of the 48 so from Ontario I am. The mechanic didn't like me I guess and had a huge list of reasons I couldn't get my car fixed here. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have issues if I purchased a motor from here. As for what years I was just going on what the guys apprentice said before I left.

Lanieem, sure I understand your concerns. Call Subaru of America, I had a terrific experience with them, they will be able to guide you through the whole process and answer all of your questions. Call them tomorrow and let me know what they tell you.

You know, your mechanic, who should be more helpful, sounds like a jerk! Find another person to help you. If I encountered someone with that attitude in business, or worked for me, I would fire them. You don't need negativity here, you're the one who's about to spend a lot of money. And, you deserve respect. I would definitely ask Subaru to refer you to someone they might know to get this done and confirm the engine that would be most appropriate for your car. If you can, and I don't see any reason why not, get an engine with the improved and newly designed head gaskets They made a change in 2010. And, some of the newer FB motors, a small percentage, are reportedly burning oil. Just an FYI on that for you. Since you are paying top dollar for a brand new engine, I would think you can get whatever you want. Tell me, why and how did your engine get destroyed? What happened that you need a brand new replacement, that's pretty unusual, don't you think? And, why not consider getting a new car. There's lots of year end deals with low finance rates right now or lease for three years and decide if you want to purchase the car after that?

Hello, Don Mealey Sport Subaru here to answer your question. Any 2.5 NON-TURBO Boxer Motor from those years will fit perfectly. The intake manifold on the Turbo Model is different. MarkW1952 I called the 1-800 number and gave my vin, but they couldn't look it up being a Canadian car. I was asked to call the Subaru Canada 1-800 number, but they were rather unhelpful and asked me to call a dealer. Dealer wants me to bring the car in... I'm not able to do that so I'm stuck. Adeviva thanks for the reply. I looked up Don Mealey Subaru and it shows Orlando. I'm in Fort Myers can you suggest anyone close to me?

I was recommended to a local engine shop and the guy found me a 2004 2.5L forester motor with 65,000 miles for $600 and hes only asking $500 to change. Prices sound good, but what do you think?

Take a look at this Web link, I think that this is a fairly safe bet, but, make sure that the head gaskets have been changed preferably to the newest design. They can be retrofitted. Good luck and yes, I don't think you'll be able to replace your car for any less than you're spending on this repair. You never told me why you needed a complete new engine replacement. Lanieem, as you can see from this website and there's some really great information here you can peruse, the complaints for a wide range of years exist and the 2004 Forrester engine was given their "seal of awesome ", so, this is pretty good news. Sure, 65,000 miles seems like a lot and actually I purchased my 2010 Subaru Outback Limited with 66,000 miles, and it runs great. Remember, if you are careful and don't want to drive like someone at Indy, and are on top of maintenance, these cars can easily go 200,000 or 300,000 miles. Just Google the Subaru high mileage club, and you'll see what I mean. Sorry, that the 800 USA number didn't work as well, but, I guess they knew that you're from Canada and wanted to keep things separate.

Sorry I kept forgetting to answer why. Rod knock is what I'm told. The car has about 210,000 km or 125000 miles I had the oil changed in Jacksonville and then continued south, when I was about 40 min away from where I needed to be the car started to make a loud knocking noise. I pulled over and called AAA the guy checked my oil and it was bone dry. Car never leaked or burned oil before so I'm not sure how it went from full to empty, but 300 miles after the oil change the car was done.

Lanieem, thanks for sharing your story. Wow, no problems to 125,000 and then all of sudden this happens, it's a cautionary tale that you should always check your engine oil . Although, your recent oil change in Jacksonville makes me wonder if they simply forgot to add the oil back in your car after they serviced it. It's interesting to me that you said you had the oil changed and drove 40 minutes away and after that short time, you heard the loud knocking noise. Did you travel a total of 300 miles after the service or just that 40 minutes. If it was only the 40 minutes, I'm suspicious that they did not add the oil. However, in the overall scheme of things, we all need to be responsible for checking this ourselves. I hope you got some good information from that web site on car complaints. There's some great information in there about your specific car and mine with respect to the engine, transmission, everything. You can even sign up free to get updates from them. I did, and I would recommend you to do this as well. Why not, it's free. It looks like it's just not a question of getting the right model car, but, the right year as well just like a fine bottle of wine. You know, next to your house, your car is the next largest capital investment aside from school that people make. It's critical to be armed with an array of good information to combat all of the losers in the marketplace. Subarus are great cars and they have a great reputation. So, I was very surprised to discover on that particular web site that the Subaru Outback for 2013 to 2015 had so many problems for very recent models. It's very unfortunate that the car's reputation gets damaged when they make certain design changes like moving from the EJ25 series engine to the FB series in 2013 with excessive oil consumption. I'm very fortunate in that I purchased my 2010 Subaru Outback Limited last year and even though it has 72,000 miles, it does not burn hardly any oil at all. I only had to add oil once, when I was doing some mountain driving and pulling my trailer. All cars, especially boxer engines, burn a certain amount of oil.
