2005 ford taurus. starting issues

Asked by forsterjr1962 Oct 17, 2015 at 09:06 PM about the 2005 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced the starter a few weeks ago and just yesterday put a new battery in
the car.  The car started right up and has been doing great until today.  Now
the car wont start.  All lights come on and are bright.  Seems to have power
going to the starter but just won't turn over.  Tried resetting the computer, but
that did not work.  Could it be a relay switch of some sort?

you could have bought a defective starter, check that you have voltage going to it while someone tries to crank it over, If you do get another one

I know this post is old but I would have checked the cps crank position sensor. on some fords and lincolns the service engine light will stay on while cranking if it does then could mean no spark

After 3 different starters displayed the same symptom: cranked, but acted as though starter hit a "hard spot" and slowed slightly while cranking--finally solicited the assistance of a friend, an ex-Ford engineer. He studied the wiring diagram and suggested the crank position sensor as the most likely culprit. It was!
