Are most of the coolant ports supposed to be blocked by the head gasket on the FJ62 (3fe) engine?
I pulled the head on my 88 FJ62 and had it rebuilt. I noticed that the new head gasket I
ordered was a bit different than the one I pulled off. On checking, the old one appears to
be for a FJ 60 series engine. However both gaskets block most of the coolant ports. The
new gasket blocks two additional ports than the old one. My old cylinder head was
cracked so had to get a different core to have rebuilt. If the old one cracked with fewer
coolant ports covered, wouldn't a head gasket that covers even more ports just lead to
more cracking?
