I have a one owner 1972 gts torino Q code 351 cobra jet, 4 speed 3.50 posi track rear.one of ONLY 2091 ever made all # matching!!! FOR SALE call Ross at 828 712 7860 thank you.
SORRY TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE,BUT NO GRAND TORINO EVER CAME WITH A COBRA JET ENGINE
FMS,Oh yesI do,they came with the 302,351 390,NONE came with a cobra jet,or a 4 speed,I own a 71 TORINO COBRA,IT IS A # MATCHING 429 SUPER COBRA JET 4 SPEED,SO YES I KNOW MY FORDS VERRY WELL,THE 70,S WAS MY TEEN STOMPING GROUNDS,AND AM A ASE FORD MECHANIC,SO YES DUMBASS I KNOW FORDS.
dont want to get into the middle of this argument but i can post multiple links on the history of the car and they did come with that engine available.
post them,if it has a CJ in it then it was a special order.

Chase thanks for the help with that clown!! Just though i would post my car for sale and i get some know it all running his mouth!! P.S. i do have the original invoice and the marti report to back it up!! thnaks again!!!
OK,Im 1/2 wrong it ,the 429 was an opition in 72 so was the 4 speed,BUT it is not a CJ or SCJ,just a 390 with 429 titleing, the scj cj were not producded after 71 due to emissions standards, also the 4 barell carb was an opition also. did a little homework on this one.
Well get the facts straight, a Q code Gran Torino has a 351 Cleveland CobraJet engine in 1972. I have one, the car does exist.
newbe,n00b,get your facts right,351 clev,351 win.

Try Canada-more Torinos in the back bush and peoples back yards here, especially where I am-Vancouver Island, but Please avoid the Cowichan Valley, I'm trying to find one exactly the same and would appreciate it if I didn't have competition Lois :-)

Actually you are wrong on this, I have one. 351C 4BBL Carb. (autolite spread bore), Dual Point Distributor, 4 Speed, manual disc brakes, manual steering all factory equipped. The Cobra Jet Cleveland was cammed different than a standard 351C (due to the lowered compression from 1971 so I've been told) This was Fords last effort of a muscle car.

my father has a blue 72 gran torino sport that has engine parts that need to be replaced and i'm not sure but i think a few more. it would be a great project car indeed. it's in good condition and he hasn't even touched it since the 80s. we are looking to sell it since money is tight and we could put the profits towards my much needed car. i can send you photo's if you're interested! :) larrysimmons1@sc.rr.com

Alonso, replace dis cap, points, rotor button, coil and plug wires, also the fuel pump most likely needs replaceing & fuel filter.since it sat that long, the gas tank will also need cleaning out.
Sorry to burst your bubble but I owned a 1972 Grand Torino Sport with a Q Code 351 COBRA JET. It was a Cobra Jet/
NO BUSTED BUBBLE,I Know they made a 351 CJ,got one in a 71 GT TORINO.
Hi I have a 1972 GT Ford Torino it's been garaged for 40yrs. The Q? you are talking about.. Is it in the Vin# of the car? If So, Is it the 5th digit in the Vin#? Thanks Greatly Appreciated
But I also have another that has been in a garge for a long long time.. and I am not sure if it is 1968 or 1969 and that one needs a front end. It has the hood.. That one is a Ford Torino GT Auto. Can anyone tell me how to identify the difference by the Vin # Thanks a Bunch..
I have a 72 sport that is mostly complete. Time to move on and am willing to part with the ride. New vinyl top, stereo, and keyless entry. Call me and I will give you the details. 425-367-1225

You may wand to read up on your Ford history before you go spouting off things that you don't even know about.
They acutaually made a 72 with a 429 cobra jet my uncle had one and wishes to this day that he had kept it,
1torinoman answered 13 years ago
you need to pull your head out of your ass!! The only cj motor in 1972 was a 351!!! they made a 429 in 1972 but it had less hp then the 351cj. last year for 429 cj was 1971 thank you have a nice day!!
The 429 came stock with 335hp so don't even try to get into this argument with me. No 351 stock even cam close to that.

I had a 72 Gran Torino i bought when i got out of the Navy. It also had the Q code 351 which is also known as the 351-C, 351 4V, 351 CJ . The 4bbl motor has huge intake ports and large valves. The cam uses the same grind as the 428 CJ hence its name. Mine also had 4 bolt mains, heavy duty cooling, C-6 with a special torque converter option, 3:25 gears. It would bury the speedometer no problem.
ClassicMuscle answered 11 years ago
There also was a reported 351 HO option wcich gave you solid lifters and a slightly higher compression ratio, and a dual point distributor. Never saw a complete engine but i had a Ford NOS connection that did find me the dual point distributor that i put in my engine along with a NOS cam (the other new part available was retarded 4 degrees from Ford)

Feb 1972 I got an RO to PDI a snow covered notchback Torino. After brushing off enough snow to get in,as unlocking the door I noticed base blue vinyl bench, column shift,AM radio,ho-hum blah testdrive coming. Until I started the beast...clattering rumble made me shutdown. What milk-toast 302 made that racket? I raised the snow pilled hood to drop my jaw & gasp as I gazed at the spun aluminum aircleaner lid's sticker- 351 SCJ--- aluminum finned valve covers, red Premium Fuel sticker. Re- started it to listen to the solid lifters as it warmed up. Giving me time to walk around the vehicle to note 8"steel wheels(plaln-Jane hub dishes in the trunk),3" shoe rear drums, sweet rumble/snap/burble dual exhaust, stripper sleeper sticker priced under $3200. On the hoist noted nodular 9",H-D C-6 w/cooler,oversized exhaust pipes. PDI testdrive loop extended to dry clean pavement,no traffic coming, nailed the thottle at 25 mph to experience, like never before,forward/sideward acceleration. VERY awesome. Car got mis-ordered obviously, was on the lot still as the 1973's were down the road. Could have bought it for $2200,my dad said no. I often wonder,is the beast still around?

I have a Gran torino 1972, to see pic, send me a message. arnaud.bernier1@gmail.com
they did make a 351-CJ (cobra jet) in 1972. I have a gran torino sports roof with the 351CJ and the locker in the rear and factory dual exhaust all #'s matching. so you cant tell me that they did not come with a CJ. Heres even what wikipideia has to say; With the only performance engine in 1972 being the 351-4V CJ, performance was no longer at the "super car" levels of the old 429 Cobra Jet Torinos. The 351-4V CJ was new for 1972 and offered a number of performance enhancing features not offered on the 1970--71 351C-4V. It included a special intake manifold, modified camshaft, special valve springs and dampers, a 750 CFM Motorcraft Carburetor, 4-bolt main bearing caps and 2.5-inch (63.5 mm) dual exhaust. The 351 CJ was the only engine equipped with dual exhaust and it was the only engine that could be mated to the available four-speed transmission. The Ram Air induction system was still available, and could be equipped on 351 CJ and 429 powered cars. Performance with the 351 CJ was still good though, and Car and Driver tested a 351 CJ, 4-speed Gran Torino Sport SportsRoof with 3.50:1 gears to have a 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 6.8 seconds. Car and Driver did not publish its quarter mile times, but Cars magazine tested a Gran Torino Sport SportsRoof with a 351 CJ, C-6 automatic, and 3.50 gears to run though the quarter mile in 15.40 seconds. .

Desperate to find a '72 gran torino sport with a 400. Preferebly blue on blue. (701) 690-two3four1. Thanks!
I had '72 GTS w/351 CLV. bench seat, column shift, black vinyl roof, silver, black int., factory mags. (looked like the old Mustang GT mags. w/Yellow, Orange, and Red reflective wide stripe from front to rear. I was overseas in England when my brother-in-law drove it around town, showing off (I had told him to get it out on open road {SWITCHED NINE BLADE FOR A FOUR BLADE FAN} 9 blade almost lost me a race when it kicked in during take-off/4 blade not for city traffic & speed) so added heat caused a port plug in the 4BBL to eject, pumping fuel on a hot running engine/ignition system. He left it on the side of the road in Mayfield, KY in 1979.
I had a 1972 GTS/Cleveland 351CJ.I ordered it with a 429 but they called me and said It would be about 6 months to get a 429,so i told them to make it a 351.I didnt know what I had until I busted a manafolf and had to get one.Thats when I found out that I had a cleveland 351 CJ.I had it until about 2005 when I gave it to my step-son.I put around 300000 miles on it.

Some kid who was learning to drive smacked me hard enough to total out the car. I was devastated. I haven't been able to locate a car like her. I did a 72 ranchero N code 4 speed swap.Used a rusty 73 gt for parts(only way to go,to many hard to find parts to source if you don't have a complete car) Used a 351M truck bellhousing and a thick motor plate (think you could stack three or four together) put the big input shaft in and had to modify the pressure plate(grind out the center to fit the larger shaft)and the correct fly wheel.Had to weld a large though out bearing end on the clutch fork .A little messing around but pretty cool when all done. have not done headers yet look like a drag
I also have a 72 GTS Q code car we with the 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet engine, funny how a bunch of us have a 72 with that engine in it yet some backwoods know it all thinks he has the facts to everything so maybe before running your wormhole how bout popping your head out of your ass and getting the real facts
