Looking for a 1972 Gran Torino Sport

Asked by Mr_Bohannon68 Mar 20, 2017 at 02:10 PM about the 1972 Ford Torino Gran Tornio Sport

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm looking for a 1972 Gran Torino Sport preferably
with a 351. I'm not looking for a show car or a
project (already restoring a 68 cougar so I don't
need another project). Ideadly I'd like to find one
that is a little rough around the edges, may need
some work done like a transmission or engine
rebuild, maybe a respray or upholstery work. Very
little rust if any, may need a few parts but is
otherwise mechanically sound. I'm wanting this as
a daily driver and don't want to spend over 7k. Any
help is much appreciated.

Shop Craig's list. Hemming's will have cars but probably not in your price range/

Transmission, engine, paint and interior work sounds like a restoration to me but good luck on your project!

I've been looking for quite some time using auto tempest and Craigslist. The cars I've found are either overpriced bombs or expensive restorations. I'll keep looking, I'm in the Western North Carolina area. I'll try to find one locally if possible but I'm exploring all my options.

Unfortunately almost everyone that has a sled with major rust and no engine thinks their car is worth 50% of a matching numbers concours car. There are fair deals out there but you have to look a lot and they go fast. Try looking in major cities as they have a lot more cars available.

Check out this site: http://forum.grantorinosport.org , dedicated to that model car and users there often post for sale ads for their Torinos. I've seen several posted there that meet your criteria, and usually well under 7K.

I know it is on the wrong coast but check out cars in Los Angles and other major Kalifornia cities.

Had a couple of these... highly recommend buying it from a rust-free state lol, these did not hold up well to the rust up north by a long shot. I'll take sun-baked over rot any day.
