1976 Triumph Spitfire Idle changing and stalling

Asked by GuruD961KT Sep 04, 2023 at 09:26 AM about the 1977 Triumph Spitfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car runs great! However when I take it on long runs and come to a stop sign
the idle wants to go down until the car stalls. The car is NOT over heating. All
lines have been insulated with 2000 degree heat sleeves. Car the so far will
start right back up. Do not have a clue. This is a copy of a question from 2017.
I have the same problem. Mine gets worse when headlights are on but can
happen anytime. Changed intake and carb. Altenator distributor Ignition switch
wiring, fuel pump seems to  be working well. Terry

Back then there were idle up and fuel cut solenoids that turned on when accessories were turned on to keep the engine idle running slightly faster to make up for the additional load. That old it may have been removed long ago. Have you tried bumping the idle up 50 rpm? now this may cause after run when the key it turned off and if it does then for sure you are missing the solenoids.

Vacuum leaks ? Any cut /tucked away wires or a flange /boss on the motor that needs a few screws ? Are the lines going to the gas tank good ?
