Rough idol, misfires, check engine light blinks?

Asked by Britnee Jul 06, 2011 at 11:35 PM about the 2004 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drove my husband’s 2004 Taurus on a trip for 200 miles with no problems.  I stopped to buy gas and immediately the engine idols very rough (like a diesel truck), backfired under the hood and the Check engine light started blinking.  I returned to the gas station but the attended had no problems with other cars.  I am able to drive at fast speeds but the engine feels like it will die when it idols.

Sounds like a bad batch of gas thats all. Did you fill it up? Try and empty the tank and then buy another tank of gas.

The tank is full but I will try to burn it up and buy a new tank or fuel from a different station. Thanks for your response!

Try checking catalytic converter to see if clogged and may need new one. PIGS53'

I had the same problem on my 2000 mercury sable. I changed the spark plugs and it runs great. If youre still dealing with the problem I would check those plugs

Idle (of an engine) run slowly while disconnected from a load or out of gear. "the car is noisily idling in the street" synonyms: tick over, run slowly in neutral "he slowed the car at a junction, letting the engine idle"
