My 2003 Ford escape keeps vibrating at 50mph

Asked by fwas71 Oct 08, 2015 at 07:00 PM about the 2003 Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my daughter a used 2003 ford escape AWD 3.0. It had a light
vibration but it had gotten worse over time, I bought new tires, balanced
and align, there was very little change it still vibrated, I replaced wheel
bearing on the front passenger tire, still no change,i replaced the lower
control arm for the same tire, still vibrates, i placed the sway bar links for
both, still vibrates, i replaced the cv axle for that same tire, still no change, i
removed the drive shaft and drove it for a month, no change, i replaced the
motor mounts (they where tough) no change, there's still a vibration, I took
the truck to shop so they could inspect the front drivers side wheel bearing
and axle, they gave it the ok. A few things to consider, when driving and
going 45-50 the truck begins to vibrates, once you hit 60 it stops, if cruising
at 50 and you put in neutral it still vibrates, the vibration almost feels like a
warped rotor when you are applying the brakes, except im not, thanks

I wonder if it has anything to do with the all wheel drive system?

Wow you sure tried almost everything, When you removed the rear driveshaft did you take the whole shaft off with the hanger bearing or just the front section?? being that it comes on at one speed and leaves at another sure sounds more of a drive train problem, not so much mounts, bearings, suspension, or engine

I totally agree with Roefast It sure sounds like a all wheel drive problem

Yes when I removed the drive shaft I also removed the hanger bearing I removed the whole shaft, also it seems as if there is a vibration running across the whole thing if you put your hands on the dash you will also feel a slight vibration

The all wheel system starts at the PTU that bolts on the transmission, That's somewhat like a transfer case, the drive shaft bolts to that. It goes to the rear differential then two cv shafts to the rear hubs, that the whole system

Fwas71, Did you ever solve your vibration? I have the exact same vehicle with the exact same symptoms.
