steam whistle coming from coolant reservoir breather

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
i just bought this 2003 Escape 3,0 V6.the lower radiator hose ruptured the
day after a bought it, i replaced the hose. thermostat and coolant. now the
engine runs fine, no overheating problems. but when the engine is at
normal operating temperature there is steam escaping from the reservoir
breather and a gurgle of the coolant going into the res tank. again the temp
is normal but the reservoir is acting as if it is too hot. any suggestions?

As long as you had purged the air pockets out of the cooling system when filling it up, it is just the coolant expanding into the reservoir making the level go up a bit. Once cooled back down over-night coolant in the reservoir should be back to the full line.

it had occurred to me that there may be air trapped in the system. where can i find the bleeder valve? i have driven the car over 100 miles over the past couple days, shouldn't that self bleed the system? thank you in advance for your help
You bleed the coolant system by warming the car to operating temperature with the radiator cap or filler cap off. This will allow the air pockets to be pushed out of the system. It will may spew out all over for a bit, but that is the air coming threw, sometimes it doesn't spew out if the level is low enough in the radiator, (do not drain any out). Do not be revving the engine up and releasing the throttle as you will get a shower! Once warmed up you can increase rpm a bit but slowly release the throttle. Keep adding 50/50 mix as needed until full. Put cap back on, Also make sure the reservoir is to the full line after the motor has cooled down over night.
