Loud growling sound coming from front end or maybe transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 08 escape limited has the 3.0 v6 awd
and automatic. When driving down the road
is has a nasty growling sound coming from
the front. I was convinced it was the wheel
bearings or the cv's so I changed them out
and it's making the same noise. It's only
noisy when the it's moving, not in park or in
drive while stopped. I think it could the the
front diff but the whole transaxle thing is
foreign to me. Any help out there?!

When hearing the noise, put it in neutral and see if it goes away.

Tried the neutral while rolling and it's still making the noise, and it makes no noise when parked or at a stop light
Are you sure noise is from front end and not rear? sound travels on the inside.

Yep, I raised the car off the ground on stands. Had a helper in the car put er in drive and use the brakes to load and unload the drive line. Everything spins free and easy but that sound is coming from the front
Only 2 things spinning left.engine or trans.

I'm having the same problem with my 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid 4 wd at the moment.
Had same Symtoms . Did same things as you . It turned out to be driveshaft
My 2010 Escape has been having front rumbling in a rhythmic manner which I associated with brakes or worn tires. Brakes done and re-done with tire rotation last year. Noise continued and an added tapping sound is added. Had top end new tires installed. The rumbling is louder and begins at 40 kph and becomes faster and louder to 60 kph. No noise when I put in neutral while moving tho. I am getting concerned gecause it is getting louder.

had a similar sound in my wifes 2017 Escape. Was worse on some local traffic circles(rh turns) Found bad right front wheel bearing. Defect from factory. Air pocket on inner race.
