Coins glued on a cars radiator

Asked by Guru2K7WN Mar 01, 2020 at 09:20 PM about the 1970 MG MGB

Question type: General

I recently saw a original V8 MG right hand steer. The radiator had several
coins (European)glued to the top of the radiator. I have searched the web with
no results. What is the significance of this?

Copper coins? Maybe they were soldered onto the radiator to plug a leak? Radiators of that era were made of copper and commonly repaired vs replaced due to the cost. Today's radiators are aluminum and much cheaper.
