SUV Stalls

on a 2003 Ford Explorer, out of no where, when the vehicle stops at a red light once in a blue moon, the tack will do something crazy and the SUV will just shut off.  Does anyone have a clue what causes this?

sometimes it jump up to like 1500 to 2000 rpm and shuts off, sometimes it just drops drown to 500 to 200 rpm and shuts off.
