2003 ford explorer

Asked by Thomas Jun 15, 2019 at 11:29 AM about the 2003 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got an awesome deal on a 2003
Ford explorer with 14,000
ORIGINAL miles. Mint condition in
and out.  The only issue is seller
said it only needs a fuel pump.  I
did some checking and online
about a reset button???  Ive never
heard of that.  Been working on
cars over 40 yrs.  Its far from me
to get a tow im disabled.
Does it make sense with only
14,000 miles???

The gauge to test the fuel pump is probably twenty bucks or less. Replacing the pump means the tank has to come out of the vehicle. I'd check the pressure first.

Do you believe them when they say it "only" needs a fuel pump? I believe that as much as I believe the 14,000 original miles. Tell them to replace the pump and add it to the price!

Look to the lower right kick panel by the passenger seat for the pump reset.

14,000 miles in 16 years sounds good, but maybe not. An in-law began driving around age 70 an purchased a 1998 olds new. It had about 10K miles on it when she died last year. Her son wanted to give it to his son as a first driver. (It did look good from the outside) I recommended he get rid of it. He kept it. Then got rid of it shortly after he began pouring money into it. Not driving a vehicle is not always a good thing.

She has been driving it and had inspecyion Nov 2018. I saw test results in person..! I am going to ask for the vin that i keep forgetting..

I am hoping to get rid of my Jeep Gran Cherokee that needs work...slippin trans & a beglected service/ maintenance. $600 waiting for title in mail. Then take $$ to check out Explorer with a magnet for body & signs of excessive work. Unfortunately i never learned abt electrical systems. If i cant drive it away then im passing on the deal. Tow would cost me a fortune...!!!
